UCT Chemical Engineering Building venues

Seminar Room

This is the seminar room on the ground floor of the Chemical Engineering building at the University of Cape Town.

When you come in the glass doors on the front-right of the building, the room is directly ahead of you. You should find a crowd of CLUGgers milling around there before the talk starts.

Basement

The basement is the room one floor below the seminar room. We sometimes use it as an alternative venue. It is officially called Studio One, or room 1.04.

Getting There

Directions to the Chemical Engineering Building

Approaching from the north or Rosebank

  1. If you are travelling from the north (city centre etc.) along the M3 (Rhodes Drive), take exit number 7 for Rosebank, marked "Woolsack Drive/University of Cape Town", and at the traffic lights turn right (towards the mountain). If you're coming from the Rosebank/Mowbray direction then drive up Woolsack Drive and go straight at the lights.
  2. Drive under the highway bridge and take the left lane to carry on straight (don't go back on the highway!). Then turn around the sharp curve to the left into the University grounds.
  3. In front of the Visitors' Centre, swing right and uphill and past the security boom (it'll be open in the evenings) and continue uphill on Ring Road.
  4. Once you turn the corner into the flat part of Ring Road, carry on past the turnoff for the North Lane. Immediately after the Jammie Shuttle stop turn left down South Lane.
  5. At the bottom of the lane turn right into the parking lot.
  6. The Chem Eng building is the one with lots of glass. The entrance is at the right-hand end of the glass bit.

Approaching from the south

  1. If you are coming from the south (Newlands/Constantia/South Peninsula) on the M3 (Union Avenue) take the UCT offramp shortly after the Princess Anne Avenue junction.
  2. After you swing round the bend, carry on straight up to the security booth at Ring Road.
  3. Turn right onto Ring Road, up through the open boom. Carry on up until you reach the (relatively) flat section.
  4. Just before the Jammie Shuttle stop on the right, turn right into South Lane.
  5. At the bottom of the lane turn right into the parking lot.
  6. The Chem Eng building is the one with lots of glass. The entrance is at the right-hand end of the glass bit.

Parking

You can drive down to the front of the building (P10 on the map).

Getting In

Note: The doors are normally locked, but will probably be manned by CLUG people from about 15 mins before an event to 5 minutes into it. If you come late you will need to phone a friend inside or a committee member to come and let you in.

Best not to be late.
