This is a topic that has been discussed a lot on the chat lists. I would like some collaberation on this and we can give some feedback about the ones we know. Like type of service provided (web, mail, virtual servers).

- Manta Online:
- Strong, Versatile Packages running on Linux with loads of features

- Hetzner:
- Offers everything from simple shared hosting (starting from R20/month) to colo and managed hosting.
- Plugged into the UUNet network via fibre, but their offering is cheaper than UUNet's.
- Virtual Servers.co.za:
- Hosting happens overseas, but I list them here because it is a local reseller. I like the idea of picking up a phone and calling someone local.
- Root access. They even organised Centos4 for me, even though it is not listed.

Semi-International
- Real Private Networks:
- Local as in very local. The owner haunts CLUG lists.
- Offers a comprehensive list of services including SSH access.
- Virtual Servers.co.za:
- Hosting happens overseas, but a local reseller. I like the idea of picking up a phone and calling someone local.
- Root access. They even organised Centos4 for me, even though it is not listed.
- Coolstuff Webhosting:
- High traffic (from 10gb /month), shared hosting and dedicated servers(1000gb), operated by CLUG member.
- FreeBSD, PHP4, Perl, SSH, Directadmin etc
International
- Pair Networks:
- One of the oldest, most stable hosting providers in the US. Good offerings at very decent prices.
- John Companies:
- Provide dedicated and virtual-shared hosting on Linux and BSD -- you get root on the machine, the rest is up to you. After hosting with them for almost 2 years, I have always been very happy with the service -- tech's who really know their stuff on 24hrs -- never more than 30-40 minutes for a reply to any (email) support queries.
- UK2.net:
- Excellent provider, state-of-the-art data center in Canary Wharf (London).
- Netservers:
- Technically highly competent, good support. Data centers in Canary Wharf (London) and Cambridge.
- Unixshell:
- Very cheap Xen virtual servers. Lots of different pricing options and plans
- Competant admins who *know* Xen.
- Pretty much any distro is available.
- Can be unreliable at times, but I've been lucky and hardly had any downtime (or lost any data).
- 1&1:
- Based in Germany, fast backbone.
- Services: Web hosting, Mail, Root servers
- SR: Used them for a UK db backed site. Cheap, snappy, ssh access, decent bandwidth, okay support.
- RoseHosting:
- Mn, USA
- Services : Root servers (various Linux distributions)
- Unlimited DNS hosting
- Had very good service so far with them: Excellent support and uptimes
- Minimal virtual server is aprox. $US 25.00 / month
- Frihost:
- Services: Free web hosting for active community members, good support.
- Aplus.Net:
- Dedicated server hosting
- Load balancing solutions
- Unix (FreeBSD) and Windows shared servers
- Datacenter based in San Diego, CA, United States
- Mistral UK
- Very nice low latency bandwidth (hosted in Canary Wharf, London).
- Mighty expensive.
- Not too worried about stepping over bandwidth allocations.
- SR: Used them to colo for a UK site.

- 100 Mbps network connection servers.
- Various Linux distros available on VPS & Dedicated Servers.
