HashClugSharedServer
From CLUG Wiki
tea and tumbleweed were chatting one evening about having a shared dedicated server #clug (or clug in general) members to use.
The idea would be for it to be an MX, Web server, shell box, etc.
Basically Xen would be out of the question...
What about KVM in the latest kernel? does this not allow you to share the memory?
because cheap boxes don't have enough RAM, it would have to be shared. This would mean agreeing on a common MTA (HORRORS!), and sharing root between a group of people... :-) And, the normal CLUG admins (i.e. tumbleweed) would probably set it up and run Debian. CLUG's server has 9 root users and it seems to work OK (basically because only a couple of them exercise their sudo rights). Important areas are SVNed, and we mail each other before doing anything drastic.
Some options:
- UK:
- VPS: http://bytemark.co.uk/page/Live/hosting/prices/virtualmachine
- Cheap Dedicated: http://uk2.net/server_info.html
- Good Dedicated: http://www.blackcatnetworks.co.uk/services/dedicated
- US:
- http://www.layeredtech.com/servers.shtml (nice specials)
tumbleweed can also offer a GiB or two of space for backups on another server at UK2.
Anyone keen?
